Edge Details

Back to PRO FAQ's

What is an edge detail?
Edge detail refers to the edge shape of a ceiling panel and how it fits into a ceiling suspension system.

Are there different types of edge detail?
Yes, there are three basic types: Square Edge (SQ), Shadowline (SL), and Fineline (FL). Square Edge is the most basic detail where a panel is cut straight (or square) on all four sides. This allows a panel face (or surface) to rest on top of the grid flange. Shadowline is a routed edge that allows the panel face to rest below the grid. Fineline, named for our Fineline box grid system, allows the panel face to rest on the same plane as the grid. Please refer to Selector page for additional options.

Why is there such a variety in edge detail?
Various edge detail allows for variety and versatility in the look of a ceiling. Create breathtaking designs by simply selecting different edge detail.

Do all edge details work with all CGC suspension systems?
Edge details are designed to work with specific suspension systems. Q: Are all edge details available with all USG ceiling panels? A. Edge details are available on most CGC ceiling panels.

Is there an extra charge for edge detail?
Yes. Since these panels are specially manufactured, they are slightly more expensive that square edge panels.

Are edge details available with color panels?
Yes, edge details are available with various color panels.

What CGC suspension systems work well with edge details?
Ceiling panels with a Square Edge combine well with 15/16", 9/16", or 1 1/2" suspension system profiles. Panels with a Shadowline Edge only work with 15/16" suspension system profiles. Panels with a Fineline Edge are ideal for Fineline grid and 9/16" suspension system profiles. On face-routed panels (Pedestals) the Interline Tapered Edge (ILT) works well with 9/16" grid.
