What is the minimum clearance required for installing an exposed T-bar grid system?
For tying hanger wires, the minimum distance of 3" from solid substrate above the ceiling to the bulb of grid (this is required to bend the wire) or 4-1/2" to face of T-bar grid. To install a lay-in light fixture, approximately 7-9" is required (depending on the fixture).

What is the standard spacing for main runners and hanger wires?
The standard spacing is 4' o.c. (on center) for both main runners and hanger wires.

Are there general instructions for installing a suspension system?
We use the installation standard, ASTM C636. For a copy, contact ASTM at (610) 832-9500, or at www.astm.org. In addition, the Ceiling and Interior Systems Construction Association publishes a helpful handbook of recommended practices.

Can a suspended ceiling be dropped 20 feet?
There are no specific definitions regarding the depth of a plenum. Since hanger wires are usually 12' long, they can be spliced together using a non-slipping knot, or suspended from a sub-structure. Some diagonal bracing may be required.
