Light Reflectance

Back to PRO FAQ's

Why is light reflectance important?
Ceilings with high light reflectance help conserve energy, reduce eye strain (which can lead to employee fatigue), and reduce the number of lighting fixtures needed to illuminate a space. Architects usually incorporate ceilings with high light reflectance into buildings designed with indirect lighting.

Can ceilings with high light reflectance reduce energy costs and the number of light fixtures needed?
Yes. High light reflectance helps realize energy cost savings: Less energy is consumed overall and per fixture by using fewer lights and lower-watt bulbs that generate the same amount of light due to higher reflectance. Fewer fixtures also mean fewer repairs and lower maintenance costs.

Is high light reflectance only important with indirect lighting?
High light-reflectance ceiling panels will benefit all lighting schemes, although the greatest cost savings realized will occur with the use of indirect lighting.

What CGC ceiling panels have the highest light reflectance?
CGC's Mars ClimaPlus™ ceiling panels has the industry's highest light reflectance rating of .92, which means the panels reflect 92 percent of the light reflected upon them. Frost™ ClimaPlus™ ranks a close second with a LR of .90. The industry average for panels is from .70s to .80, while anything above .85 is considered high. We offer numerous other panels with high light reflectance.

Does high light reflectance affect acoustical performance?
Not at all. We have a wide selection of ceiling products with both high light reflectance and strong acoustical performance as in NRC, CAC, and AC ratings. That effective combination is also found in our Mars ClimaPlus™ and Mars ClimaPlus™ High NRC ceiling panels, which are ideal for open plan offices where sound control and indirect lighting are essential factors.

Will high light reflectance ceiling panels save money?
Reduced number of lighting fixtures, replacement and maintenance costs, and lowered energy costs are attributed to the use of high light-reflectance ceiling panels.
